A mobile hygiene shower truck for the unhoused community of East Tennessee. The truck includes one ADA shower stall, one non-ADA shower stall, + wall-mounted washing machines. The the truck stops at 7 locations + parks across from free haircut salons. This truck is meant to give opportunity and hope to the unhoused community in an effort to reduce homelessness.
EXPERIENTIAL SHOWER STALL
The main idea of the shower stall is meant to give dignity to the unhoused population. For this to be successful, the shower stall must be an enjoyable space, while also being inclusive to all people. Throughout the duration of the project, there was conversation about how luxury spaces might make people feel out of place and uncomfortable. Because of this, the materiality of the stall was chosen to create a calming environment and experience, without being too luxurious.
EXPERIENTIAL SHOWER STALL
This view is showing the stall from the entrance. The stall features a combination washer/dryer for clothes, a seating area where one can relax and store any items, and an ADA compliant shower and toilet. One issue with the size of the stall was the lack of space to configure the shower and toilet for more privacy. This problem was solved by adding partition walls to block off the space, and having a fog pipe that creates a layer of added privacy and helps define both spaces within the shower stall.
